Ladakh - Jeep Safari

Ladakh is traversed by other mountain chains, the Ladakh range and Zanaskar range. It is rightly called “Land of endless discovery”. A vast highland desert at an altitude of 11500 feet, LEH is the centre of Buddhist culture. The participants would be visiting Thiksey Gompa, Hemis Gompa, Stok Palace, Shanti Stupa and Magnetic Point. The highest motorable road in the world, KHARDUNGLA is another destination. PANGONG TSO a brackish water lake at an altitude of 14256 ft. must be the highest such lake in the world. Interestingly, one third of this lake belongs to India and the remaining water belongs to China.

Nubra is a high altitude cold desert. Local scholars say that its original name was Ldumra (the valley of flowers). The Shyok River meets the Nubra or Siachan River to form a large valley that separates the Ladakh and Karakoram Ranges.

LEH-13
28TH MAY TO 10TH JUNE

Finally the wait of years came to an end and I could join this dream trip. The mysterious, at the same time, majestic LEH came calling. With ANALA this as my 7th trip, so worrying regarding arrangements was out of question.
And then came 28th May. The journey begane. Though physically it ended on 10th June, the journey through memory lane still goes on.
Beauty of Dal lake, house boats, gardens, Jozilla were the APPETIZERS.
Then came the STARTERS on the way to Kargil and Leh. Hills with different colours, Vijay Path, NAMIKALA, FOTULA, Sangam of Zanskar-Indus , Magnetic hills, Paththar Sahib gurudwara and finally reached Leh.
Now the MAIN-COURSE began. Myatic Monastries, CHANG LA, heart stealer PANGONG TSO, KHARDUNG LA Magnanimous LEH Palace and finally the etenal bliss-SHANTI STUPA.
Then the DESERT was a surprise. Just when we thought, we have seen the best there came TANGLANG LA, MORE PLANE, SARCHU and Top of all BARALLACHA ( SWWITZERLAND IN INDIA). Confluence of CHANDRA and BHAGA at KEYLONG was an Icing on the Cake.
And being a Gujarati, how can we forget MUKHVAS. Came as a traffic jam at ROHTANG, where the group danced on the tunes of GARBA and FILMY songs.
By the time we reached MANALI, we were not individuals anymore but a family of 30.
So family fun from MANALI to DELHI was all together a differentt experience, which still goes on in form of GET-TOGETHER,
SMS, e-mails and PHONES.
          Hope this journey never ends.
Thank you ANALA for giving such a fabulous TREAT.

                                                                        SHAILESH TEREDESAI (Prof.)
