Hamta Pass: At an altitude of 4270 m (14039 ft), Hamta pass is on the Pir Pangal range in Manali. This pass is frequented by shepherds of the lower Himalayan region, seeking high altitude grasslands in the summer, when the dry cold desert of Lahaul is barren. The trek offers quite a few wildflowers and herbs, vertical rock walls, waterfalls, hanging glaciers, pinewoods, rhododendron forests, open meadows, tiny lakes and peaks.

Sketch itinerary:
Day 1: Manali to Jobri Drive & Trek to Chikka
Day 2 : Chikka to Balu ka Ghera (3300 mtrs) 5 hours
Day 3: Balu ka Ghera to Hamta pass (4200 mtrs) and back to Balu ka Ghera 5 to 6 hours
Day 4: Balu ka Ghera to Jobri, drive to manali.
List of essentials: Photo ID proof, three pairs of clothes, good quality hiking shoes, waterproof rucksack, heavy woolens (sweater, Jacket, gloves, woolen cap, woolen socks, raincoat, thermals), 2 waterproof tracksuit/trousers, bath towel, napkin, 4 pairs of cotton socks, slippers/floaters, water bag (not plastic bottle), torch (with extra batteries), cap, sunglasses, day pack, sanitary requisites (soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, sunscreen, cold cream, lip balm etc.), loads of enthusiam and a pledge to leave no trace.
All the items: Should be carried in a duffel bag, soft shoulder bag or a rucksack. Avoid suitcases, trolleys or any other hard luggage. As you will be walking long distances carrying a rucksack, avoid bringing unnecessary items on the trek. Please avoid carrying ornaments and valuables on the trek.

Medical Facilities: First aid would be available throughout the programme. All emergences would be treated by the nearest available doctor/medical facility.

Day 1: Manali to Jobri Drive & Trek to Chikka
Drive to Jobri after briefing at 10:00 am in the morning. Have hot lunch at the campsite at around 1:00 pm. Trek to Chikka (3-4 hours) after lunch. On the way, we pass through dense forests of maple, oak and pine trees, cross few streams and walk on dilapidated wooden bridges, all while enjoying the cacophony of various Himalayan birds. The grasslands of Chikka welcomes us with breath-taking views of Deo Tibba and Indrasan group of peaks. We camp there for the night with Rani ka Nallah stream flowing beside us. Over night at Camp.
Day 2 : Chikka to Balu ka Ghera (3300 mtrs) 5 hours
The trail begins by flat walking through the forest of Mapple, Silver Fir, Pine and Oak, paved by the grass and stone and fields of the wild flowers. We have to cross the river twice, the bank sloping down from the high cliffs all around and ideal location for the end of the day. Over night at Camp.
Day 3: Balu ka Ghera to Hamta pass (4200 mtrs) and back to Balu ka Ghera 5 to 6 hours
The trail begins to ascend toward to the mighty Hamta pass and soon the distant valley of Lahoul/Spiti comes in the view. From the pass one can enjoy the view of magnificent Himalayan peaks like Deo Tibba, Indra Asan, Indra Kila. Slowly, landscape starts getting rugged, after one hour’s descend to the meadow of Shea Gahru, beautiful campsite on the foot of the glacier is reached.
Day4: Balu ka Ghera to Jobri, drive to manali
We leave Balu ka Ghera to descend down to Jobri. It will be an emotional day for all the members since it will be the last day of the trip. Descending down is as tricky as ascending and requires a lot of stamina and presence of mind. After reaching Jobri, everyone is driven to Manali and reach by 2-3 pm.
Reporting: Participants have to report at Manali on the first day at given time and will be dropped back to Manali on the last day of the Trek.
Food: Wholesome & hygienic vegetarian food will be served, including breakfast, lunch and dinner. Special Jain/Swaminarayan food is also served at the campsite if mentioned in the application form.
Please Note: If due to bad weather, sickness, natural calamity or any other unforeseen reason/s, the itinerary is changed during the trek, extra charges arising due to it will be borne by the guests. same will be applicable if a guest decide to change the itinerary due to any personal reason. Also, if the days are cut short on the trek/trips for any of the above reasons, we will not be liable to make hotel arrangements at the base or any other location for the guests.
Optional Charges :
Charges for a porters/mules to carry personal bag throughout the trek (not more than 12 kgs) per person for the complete trek. If you want us to arrange for portage of your personal luggage you can book the same by selecting the option of Personal Luggage Charges.
Transport Options (DELHI – MANALI – DELHI)
For travel to Chandigarh / Delhi and back one can choose between air, rail & road. and is well connected to Chandigarh / Delhi and other parts of the country by Air India, Indigo & Spice Jet. Train travel is highly recommended with enough options being there. For train details, you could log on to www.indianrail.gov.in and for online railway ticket bookings you could log on to www.irctc.co.in
There are frequent Public Transport buses including Volvos available from Chandigarh / Delhi to Manali that cost about approx Rs. 1200-1500 per person. These buses depart from Delhi ISBT every 1hrs. or so and take about 14 to 15 hrs to cover the distance. The same is also applicable on the return journey. A private vehicle could also be arranged for if you require the same.
Group size?
Anala Outdoors has a strict policy on Responsible Travel and keeping this in mind we do only small groups on any of our treks(max 25 to 30 people). This also means extra safety & personal attention for our guests.
Drinking water?
Natural mineral water is present all over the trail. You have to carry water bottles.
Medical emergencies?
In case of any emergency one of our guides along with the porters and support staff will accompany the guest back to the starting point of the trek from where he/she will be driven to the nearest hospital for treatment. We carry first aid kit with us on the trek.
Fitness level?
Good physical as well as mental fitness is required for this trek.
Type of Footwear?
Although we recommend a high quality waterproof hiking shoes with good grips under them.
